No more cast!

Meredith's cast is off! The nurse used a saw to remove it yesterday, then Meredith went to have xrays, which showed the new bone growth. The pediatric orthopedist said it is healing nicely. He then pulled the pins out by twisting them with his hands (they had a pair of pliers there, but didn't use them). Meredith was obviously uncomfortable during this part, but we were able to keep talking to her to help keep her mind off it a little bit. She was so brave; she didn't even cry! The arm is very stiff, so she has a hard time bending it still and the doctor said it could take as long as 6 months to fully extend that arm. But after a few hours at home Meredith was already moving her wrist and fingers around - using them to pick up and open things. She's still mostly using her left hand, but I have a feeling she'll be using that right arm more and more. We go back in 3 weeks for more xrays and if everything's okay then, she'll be released to full activity. The doctor said at that point she could even play football if she wanted to!
