Ear Tubes for Two

This last Friday morning was a busy one! For me it started at about 4:30 am Friday morning. We had to wake up Amanda and Claire at 5:30 to drive to the pediatric surgery center for them to get tubes in their ears. They woke up easily and by the time we got there they were wide awake and running aroung asking for snacks! Unfortunately they couldn't have anything to eat or drink, and they handled that really well. The nurses and doctors were so nice. Claire and Amanda seemed happy to have a new place to play while all the paperwork was being completed and the nurse checked their vitals - they asked to climb into the giant crib and pretended to go 'night-night'. They put their babies to sleep in the crib, sang songs and were generally having a good time! (Much better than any of the other kids there!) But I guess going for outpaitent surgery with one of your best friends makes it a little more bearable. At about 7:15 they came to take Claire first, and started singing "The Wheels on the Bus" as soon as they took her from me - her favorite song! She seemed to go along with it all and never fussed a bit. Amanda however, had about 20 minutes to ask, "Where Tare go?" and think about how some stranger had come to take her sister away. She did not go so quietly - in fact we heard her cries for several minutes after the nurse came to get her, and when the ENT came to tell us he was finished and she was doing fine he commented that she put up quite a fight. They both did great and ended up with ear tubes in all ears. The ENT said that they had thick fluid built up in all four ears and it would not have gone away on its own anytime soon. Amanda and Claire were doing well enough that by about 8:30 they discharged us to go back home! The girls were playing and running around by the time we got home - obviously a little tired and hungry, but seemed to be feeling pretty good. By the time they woke up from their nap that afternoon, you'd never have known anything happened that morning.
