Sleep... it's for whimps.

The girls have always been great sleepers. The triplets were sleeping through the night at 4 months, and rarely woke up in the night. Meredith sleeps great, though she does occasionally wake up in the night to use the restroom and insists on telling me. :)

However, a couple weeks ago, Greg left to start his new job and we went on a trip to the beach. While at the beach, there were no naps. We were up a little later than usual each night, and the girls woke up early each day. But we were on vacation - no big deal. During this time, the triplets took turns waking up during each night crying (and I was sleeping in the same room as them!). Since we've been home though, the girls have continued waking up at night, Amanda has resisted nap time every day except today (and she had a fever today, so was probably more tired). Melissa has resisted a couple times. They've woken up early just about every day too - up to an hour early! Hopefully things will settle down soon and we can return to our good sleep routines and habits. At least I'm really really praying they will!

Today, while Meredith was at school, I took Amanda, Claire and Melissa upstairs after lunch to play before I put them down for naps. When we got upstairs, they ran to Meredith's room and two girls climbed on the bed. Claire, pretending to be the mommy, "sang them night-night" and rubbed their backs. Turned off the light and closed the door. Almost instantly the two in bed let out a fake cry and Claire opened the door:

Claire: What's wrong?
Amanda: I not tired.
Claire: Okay. You can get up.

Then they switched and Amanda was the mommy. She sang Melissa and Claire night-night, rubbed their backs, turned off the lights and closed the door. Someone yelled.

Amanda: What's wrong.
Claire: I do not want to nap.
Amanda: Okay.

They repeated this game for about 10 minutes. Apparently in their eyes, this is how it is supposed to happen. Since we've been home from our vacation, when Amanda starts crying from her naptime crib I open the door and without going in the room ask her, "What's wrong?" When she tells me she does not want to take a nap I tell her she can lay down and rest, sing to her baby, or read a book. But she is not getting out of bed until her rest/nap time is over. Then I close the door and leave. So after today's playtime, I guess I've been going about this all wrong. :)

My fingers are crossed that tonight will be better. Though my alarm is set for 4am to go check on Amanda's fever. And who knows what will happen if the other two wake up while I'm in checking on one...
