School Daze

As we settle into the routine of school... getting up at 6:30 for the girls, doing a little homework each night (practicing alphabet and letters, writing and recognizing sight words), and being in bed by 8:30 - the girls are adjusting really well. Meredith got into the car after school today and announced, "School is fun!" Yea! I was so glad to hear her say those words after a rough start. She told me today that her best friend is Riley, and she likes to play with her at recess. And her class had music today, which is her favorite specials class. She was proud that when she bought her lunch she chose a "healthy food" - an apple. And of course, she chose chocolate milk to drink!

Amanda, Claire and Melissa love their preschool. They are eager to go each day they have school - Tuesdays and Thursdays. Their teachers are great and they could already tell all the girls apart at the end of the first day. It's nice to see that sometimes when they get into class they play together, and sometimes they choose different activities. And I've discovered that those 4 hours they are at school fly by.

I had a doctor's appointment on Tuesday, to get an exam and to discuss lasik. After 2 hours of waiting and tests by various technicians, I finally saw the doctor. He looked in my eyes and immediately asked, "Do you wake up a lot at night?" Gosh, why do you ask? I told him that I had 4 young kids and they frequently wake up at night to use the restroom (and don't like to go by themselves) and we've been battling fevers and coughs over the last 3+ weeks so there's been a lot of up and down at night. "Well, that explains it." My eyes were pretty red and tired, and the blood vessels slightly enlarged and growing into the cornea - partially allergies, partially wearing the contacts too long each day, partially not getting enough sleep (eyes not getting rest) at night. Easy to fix by giving them a rest from contacts and trying to get more sleep at night. So no more contacts, and lasik on October 8th!
