At the Big Top!

Though there wasn't a 'big top', there was a circus! On Monday we took the girls to the circus; though it was a little small, they seemed to have a great time. They weren't so sure of the clowns when they got too close, but they loved to watch them walk by and wave - from a distance.

Meredith got brave and wanted her picture taken with a clown. But when Dumpling sat down beside her and leaned in... she wasn't so sure.

They had a center ring at the beginning of the show - with 2 lions, 2 tigers, and a white tiger. The girls also loved seeing the elephants, camels, horses, ponies, bears, and dogs. They were a little disappointed that they couldn't ride the elephant, but at $10 a child for a 2 minute ride... that adds up quick! Claire loved the juggling and the acrobats, Melissa liked the animals and the motorcycles (4 at a time riding around in a steel ball), Meredith liked the animal tricks, and Amanda... well she slept through the entire first half - through the flashing lights, loud music, cheering crowd. The girl must have been tired! Once she woke up though, she liked the acrobats swinging near the ceiling. One girl stood up on the swing and kept getting higher and higher... as one who loves to swing high herself Amanda said, "We're never supposed to stand on swings!"
By the way, you know the circus is on a budget when at the end of the circus they ask for 15 kids to come to the front for a trash bag to help gather trash in the stands (in exchange for a free cotton candy). The lady who sold tickets was also the bear trainer, the man who sold ride tickets was one of the acrobats, the lion tamer was also the elephant trainer and juggler...
