This morning we said good-bye to Kali for the last time. If you ask Meredith, she'll tell you that Kali is in puppy heaven now, and she can run and play, and she isn't sick anymore. We are glad we had 7 good years to spend with Kali and we tried to make her last full day with us lots of fun.
Yesterday morning Kali went for a car ride with Meredith and Greg. Kali loved to ride shotgun in the car with Greg - she even drove across the country twice with him a few years ago. Yesterday Greg and Meredith put the red wagon in the car and took Kali to a nature trail for a walk. Kali walked most of the way, then rode in the wagon on the way back to the car. Greg said she seemed to have a good time getting out and seeing a few new things. Then another car ride to go get ice cream shakes, and the ladies at the drive-thru just oohed and ahhed over Kali.
After dinner last night, all six of us took Kali for a walk around the block - with Kali riding in the wagon. She sat up for some of the ride, but laid down for the 2nd half. She seemed to have a smile on her face, hanging out with the little girls and getting lots of extra hugs.
Kali had quit eating again Friday morning, just one week after her cancer diagnosis (read here to find out how Kali got sick), and her activity level dropped significantly over the weekend. Other than those two outings yesterday (where she somehow got a short burst of energy), Kali spent the whole weekend just laying in the kitchen. She had sad eyes, and was refusing all foods. Last night and this morning, she didn't even raise her head when we walked into the room. Greg was with her when she died this morning.
